Mitsubishi Electric · Hybrid VRF
City Multi Hybrid VRF.
Refrigerant runs to the Hybrid Branch Controller; water runs to the indoor units — so there is no refrigerant in occupied spaces. Suited to apartments, hotels, aged care, healthcare and staged refurbishments.

The range
How Hybrid VRF works.
The Hybrid Branch Controller (HBC) exchanges heat between the refrigerant circuit and a water circuit. Everything from the HBC to the indoor units is water.
Hybrid Branch Controller
CMB-WM108-1016V-AA/AB. 8 or 16 branch connections, main and sub controllers for larger systems, and twin plate heat exchangers each with its own pump.
No leak detection in occupied rooms
Mitsubishi Electric states Hybrid VRF complies with AS/NZS 5149 with no refrigerant in occupied spaces, removing the need for leak detection there.
Staged installation
The system can be installed in stages, which suits occupied refurbishments, aged care and buildings delivered in phases.
Selection & installation
Where Hybrid VRF earns its place.
Hybrid VRF is worth comparing with conventional VRF and 4-pipe chilled water whenever small rooms, sleeping areas or refrigerant limits drive the design.
- Small rooms where refrigerant limits would otherwise apply
- Sleeping accommodation: apartments, hotels and aged care
- Healthcare and clinics
- Occupied buildings refurbished in stages
- Projects comparing VRF with 4-pipe chilled water
- HBC locations coordinated for access, drainage and acoustics
