Mitsubishi Electric · Water-cooled VRF
Water-cooled City Multi VRF.
WY heat pump and WR2 heat recovery VRF for high-rise, coastal and plant-constrained buildings — including buildings with an existing closed water loop that can be re-used. A strong option when replacing ageing central plant.

Key data
| Capacity per unit | 22–150 kW |
| Indoor units per unit | 15 to 50 |
| WR2 heat recovery | Refrigerant and water circuits |
| WR2 max. piping | 550–750 m (P200–P900) |
The range
WY or WR2.
Both connect to a building’s closed water circuit. Condensing units give off no radiant heat, so they can sit in small plant rooms on each floor rather than on the roof.
WY-Series heat pump
PQHY-P200-900Y(S)LM-A. Water-source heat pump VRF from 22 to 150 kW, with 15 to 50 indoor units per condensing unit and individual or centralised control.
WR2-Series heat recovery
PQRY-P200-900Y(S)LM-A. Double heat recovery — between indoor units on the refrigerant side and between condensing units on the water loop — for simultaneous heating and cooling.
Re-using existing plant
Mitsubishi Electric states water-cooled VRF can connect to a building’s closed water circuit, including one from a previous chiller system — often the key to a staged, floor-by-floor replacement.
Selection & installation
The water loop decides the job.
In a replacement, the existing water side matters as much as the new VRF. We assess it before recommending a system.
- Condition and capacity of the existing loop, pumps and heat rejection plant
- Water treatment, strainers and flushing before connection
- Cooling tower or dry cooler obligations reviewed with the owner
- Floor-by-floor changeover planned around tenants
- Loop pumps, valves and alarms integrated with the BMS
- Refrigerant charge checked against AS/NZS 5149
